Opteron as embedded processor? (It's not about this particular announcement, but just hinted by). Sounds strange? Of course it's power requirements don't match what you can expect from embedded cpu. What match is a standard HT bus, which is forward and backward compatible with all Hammer-based cpu's from very low-end or portable A64 to the fastest Opteron. You can put it into next-gen routers, medic and physics equipment, military control devices and a wide range of manufacturing devices. Once designed, HT-to-what-I-need hubs will work for years with new generations of cpu's. A not necessary from AMD, I think Transmeta will make HT-based embedded cpu's before AMD.
