Spider silk maker scales up production for sportswear brand

Spider silk developer Kraig Biocraft Laboratories has announced tests with a “globally recognised performance apparel manufacturer” have gone well, and it is scaling up to produce additional testing samples.

Vietnamese production agreement is nearly finalised, with the full agreement drafted and going through comment process and it is “actively exploring” alternative production countries as a back-up.
“R&D will continue, but it is no longer necessary to create a product that is ready for market,” said the company.

“Dragon Silk’s tensile strength has increased by an additional 11%, with a number of samples exceeding 2GPa, and is ready for scale and sale,” it said.

It will also provide test articles to the US government after they requested samples to evaluate the material for ballistics performance.
