Thanks - interesting article...I am not sure the West will ever completely "understand" ISIS, albeit there are lots of theories about their violence. One theory I heard recently is the Muslim religion never incorporated the secular society into their religious society, unlike the Christians and Jews, thereby leaving the Muslim community still controlled by a religious society...For an example of how dangerous that could be in a secular society, look no further than those who bomb/murder people in abortion clinics because IN THEIR VIEW it's against god's will - fortunately, these extremists - read: murderers - are kept in check by a secular society.
