have to admit, I'm tempted to pull the rip cord here. but Retail sales and PPI are due at 8:30 a.m. ET, with business inventories and consumer sentiment scheduled for release at 10:00 a.m.

wondering if that will accelerate downside pressure, or dampen it.

I "think" that bad news is back to being bad news, because rate hike is a virtual certainty now. so bad data will just look worse going into a certain rate hike.
