I don't think it is as much the herd mentality as it is the opportunity for the swing traders to make their moves quickly thus causing the price to drop with panic selling. It is not really a prophecy of needing to be filled...but more a drop in confidence created by those quick trades that make it fall to test the resistance level again. The end result is the gap gets filled. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we tested the 20 day again. Too many people are in to pop and drop and gap ups are what they love. I myself hate gaps. Slow and steady wins the race for me.
