A Pipeline of Nuclear Truth

Japan is restarting its reactors right now. Two have now reached commercial operation with two more slated to come online early next year. A recent report from the government said nuclear will still account for nearly a quarter of electricity supply 15 years from now.

Nine German reactors are still operating, and the country is realizing it's going to cost much more than anticipated to take them all offline — the price tag is now at $75 billion versus and estimated $34 billion. That's a smart sum to pay not to create clean baseload power.

There are more reactors under construction now than before Fukushima. There are more reactors ordered or planned than before Fukushima.

A Pipeline of Nuclear Projects

The scourge of nuclear fear has passed worldwide.

Reuters has reported that “China's nuclear approval process now back to normal,” with Zhang Huazhu, chairman of the China Nuclear Energy Association noting:

"We've approved two new projects this year and there will probably be another two or three approved later this year, so I believe that normality in the sector has already been restored."

China has 26 reactors, is building 23, and wants 172 more. It also just partnered with Romania and Argentina to build reactors in those countries.

30-year deal, as the article notes:

...would allow Beijing to buy more U.S.-designed reactors and pursue a facility or the technology to reprocess plutonium from spent fuel. China would also be able to buy reactor coolant technology that experts say could be adapted to make its submarines quieter and harder to detect.
