Why would Qcom cave on licensing rates? W-CDMA is already accepted as the prominant 3G format, and whatever technology is involved is fairly well set. To be argued, I guess, is the relative value.

It seems to me that, for carriers and handset vendors, the main concern should be impact of W-cdma's ADDED ROYALTIES on both (1) direct cost to subscribers and (2) the indirect impact it has on vendor competition in terms of continuing the unlevel playing field that became sand in the gears of 2G.
