Kirkland Lake Gold has announced an offer to acquire all outstanding shares of St Andrew Goldfields in an all-share deal.

Kirkland's offer is opportunistically timed but not unreasonable.

St Andrew shareholders can continue to benefit from their own projects as well as the high-grade mine owned by Kirkland Lake.

A higher offer from a third party cannot be excluded at this time, so I'd just hold the shares before tendering them to Kirkland Lake.

Introduction

In an article I wrote in September, I was making a case for St Andrew Goldfields (OTCQX:STADF) as the company seemed to have been flying under the radar, despite being one of the very few free cash flow positive gold mining companies. Today, competitor Kirkland Lake Gold (OTCPK:KGILF) announced it entered into an agreement with St Andrew to acquire all its outstanding shares.
