I saw these prices yesterday while looking around and thought about updating some old Windows desktops. Unfortunately these old desktops have SATA II controllers with IDE APIs so there's no TRIM support if you use it in the default mode. I've read up on switching to ACPI and it may be possible but it's very tricky and I'd likely need to reinstall (which I can't do because the upgrades (from Vista) were from digital downloads and I don't have them anymore.

The system has three PCIe X1 slots and I could use a PCIe X1 to SATA3 controller but there are speed limitations on PCIe X1 slots. So upgrading older machines with SSDs isn't always a win. I think that it's a lot easier starting with Sandy Bridge where there is natural SATAIII motherboard support.
