I think MS making normal silk obsolete is a distinct possibility. Considering it is the same aimal producing from the same location with the same processes if MS is better in all ways to mundane silk why would anyone want mundane silk.

Like gmo corn. It replaced the mundane corn.

There will always be traditionalist and those that fear the science but even those will die out in time.
I doubt anyone likes the idea of gmo corn but we all eat it anyway.

That is the hardest part of this. MS could be in every silk farm on the planet but in the time it takes to do that there will be others doing the same thing.

All that is really happening is the silk we all know is expanding to other frontiers.
In 50 years there will be thousands of different silks for different uses instead of just 1.
