Elance is part of something called UpWork. Upwork is the merger of o-desk and Elance, and essentially it's a place to find freelancers.

Most likely Brown, Griglack & Zambrano are a couple of friends who decided to try to start a business online. They haven't even put together a website. I'll even bet they were offered stock instead of cash as payment.
