chipguy, the term 'workstation' is generally used in this industry to indicate a high end desktop machine with advanced graphics capability. Yes, a workstation is a desktop. Your Intel reference made a difference by context - that is not to say that a workstation isn't a desktop but rather a distinction they use for their roadmaps: When used together on the same page, it is understood by context that workstations refer to the high end desktops only, and the desktop catagory refers to lower end.

Since the question is about how intel defines things, perhaps we should go with..... How intel defines it?

Looks to me like P4 with HT and Celeron. I'd call P4/HT a "High End" product.

Now, although you do not speak for wbmw, it was he who specifically said that Intel only promised Merced servers - I think you would agree that a workstation is not a server.

Looks Like intel groups WorkStations with Servers, and uses P4 with HT/Xeon/Itanium. So if we DO go with your definition that a Workstation IS the same as a desktop, and since intel does say Itanium is for Workstations, then by your definition, intel DOES HAVE an itanium "Desktop".

This is quite a departure from what you were posting, please don't try to be such an expert spinmeister.

So nice to see that AMD fans can get away with name calling on this thread when others get chastised for it. HELLO KEITH..... ARE YOU THERE???
