Water Purification Stocks like SolarBrook Water & Power Corp. (OTCPK: SLRW) on the Rise Following Fukushima Woes

Recent worries regarding radioactive water from Fukushima, a damaged Japanese nuclear power plant, have caused some interesting activity in water purification stocks lately. So far, at least one U.S. company has been hired to help remove hazardous radioactive materials from sea water in the Pacific Ocean. This private company, Kurion Inc., has ties to Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: PESI), who has recently seen volatile price action. Another, smaller market-cap stock that has seen action in light of recent cleanup efforts is SolarBrook Water & Power Corp. (OTCPK: SLRW), a water purification company that trades on the OTC markets.

SolarBrook focuses on the detection, treatment, and removal of contaminants from water sources. With share prices recently surging to highs of $0.0009 (or 800% in peak gains) from February to present day, it seems that traders have been happy to invest in the company's potential to be called upon for their water treatment services or patents. The companies that have been contracted to help with this clean up effort so far have not reached the required capacity to keep up with the leakage. SLRW currently owns 19 patents that could be licensed to the clean up companies for a large fee. Another of the company's attractive features is its relatively low market capitalization of only $252,352 (as of 06/13/2014). This allows shares to quickly appreciate in value as traders place their bullish bets.

While SolarBrook's position in these recent events remains unknown, it is apparent that investors are purchasing stock in speculation. As staggering amounts of radioactive water continue to be produced by the Fukushima plant, the West Coast in the U.S. is starting to see the effects of the disaster as well. Researchers from Oregon State University noted that radiation levels have tripled in samples of albacore tuna caught in the Pacific Northwest since the disaster struck.

Continue to watch water purification company stocks such as SolarBrook as concerns over the Fukushima radiation continue to swell.
