"Petro Rio S.A. (“Company” or “PetroRio”)
(BM&FBOVESPA: PRIO3, TSX-V: PRJ), hereby announces that its subsidiary HRT O&G
Exploração e Produção de Petróleo Ltda. (“HRTOG”) has been technically qualified as a
Category A Operator by the Brazilian National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuel Agency (Agência
Nacional de Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis - ANP).
Qualification as a Category A Operator allows the company to conduct and execute onshore,
shallow water, deep water and ultra deep water operations. Since March 2011, HRTOG had
already been acting as Category B Operator onshore and in shallow waters.
Category A qualification is a fundamental step for the conclusion of the acquisition of the
rights and obligations related to the concession contracts for the Bijupirá and Salema fields
(“BJSA”) from Shell Brasil Petróleo Ltda. and Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras.
PetroRio will become the sole operator of the BJSA, with effective date as of January 1, 2015,
after approval by ANP for the acquisition of the rights and obligations of these fields’
concession contracts."
