BALTIA UPDATE:
First off I would like to thank each and every one of our valued shareholders for your patience and dedication. Without you Baltia would not have come this far.
I know that many shareholders and others who have been following Baltia’s air carrier certification project have called and asked for an update on where things stand with the FAA. One of the questions is "why is it taking such a long time?" As many of you know, Baltia submitted a request to the FAA that the company’s Mini-Evacuation drill #7 be considered a “pass”.
Our request is based on the following:
All required doors opened and slides deployed in the requisite amount of time. Baltia’s crewmembers performed their duties satisfactorily; in fact, they received accolades from the FAA for their professionalism and performance. However, the slide on door R1, after proper pack opening and initial unfolding, became entangled on its internal geometric guide strap during the latter unfolding/inflating sequence. In our view, the escape system still could have been used in an emergency.
United Technologies / BF Goodrich, the slide manufacturer, concurred with Baltia’s analysis that the malfunction was caused by an internal slide packing error by an appropriately certificated and rated repair station, that did not follow the manufacturer’s maintenance manual as instructed by Baltia. The error could not have been detected during Baltia’s comprehensive receiving inspection.
Baltia’s Chief Maintenance Inspector and the repair station’s Quality Assurance staff have worked diligently to determine the root cause of the discrepancy and, most importantly, implement a comprehensive fix to prevent reoccurrence. These actions have been completed.
The FAA is considering Baltia’s request. While we await the agency’s decision, Baltia’s staff is continuing to work on the remaining certification tasks and the ongoing maintenance of Baltia’s aircraft. We have advised the FAA of our desire to expedite the path forward.
