It appears to me someone is accumulating shares. Makes no sense to prop up bid to buy higher price on 200 or 20k shares. There must be a seller and buyer for a transaction at same ask and bid. Your theory of manipulation to pay more just to make close look better doesn't make sense.
My guess there we will see a press release soon that will explain why those are buying at these low share prices.
