Sounds like someone took exception to a threat from the company (I understand several have been issued) and now they are trying to set up a, "We was 'hacked'", defense. It's been tried before, many times. That defense seldom works unless the hacker can be identified and prosecuted.

Usually, the company's past actions speak louder than any attempt to shift the blame onto unidentified "hackers". In this case, the company has a long history of making misleading, false statements and outright LIES. I think any judge would be skeptical of anything they say at this point.
