Why would crudely broken material (we're not talking a fine dust here that could seriously increase surface area) degrade any faster than intact bud? Explain that logic to me please.

Granted, milled product has been handled more and there is an increase in surface area relative a whole bud, but unless you're driving it to a powder I can't see this significantly increasing the rate of cannabinoid degradation.

Degradation is likely more dictated by the storage conditions (light exposure, relative humidity, temperature) and the upstream curing process at these stages.

Many of the chromatography studies looking at cannabinoids do show some degradation to CBN as a function of storage time, but I don't think we're talking significant amounts even over a time frame of years.

In actuality, you'd probably get very fragile material with a smoother smoke because of chlorophyl break down, further loss of moisture and break down of the structural material in the plant.
