I use Etrade. I have had three online brokerage accounts in the past - Etrade, Datek, and Wit Capital. Datek limited the amount of shares I could purchase in one transaction when it came to pennies - they are now Ameritrade and I have since closed my account so I don't know anything about Ameritrade. Wit Capital merged with Etrade, so my WC account became part of an already existing account. I get free level II with Etrade and their trades are all 9.99 providing that you make at least 27 trades per quarter. They have yet to institute the T-rule so that is good. They're customer service is the pits of the world. Which is the better of the evils - you pick?! LOL
