I would understand if you cringe if I would suggest to put $40000 in it right now (even though I would also understand people do it) but what is making you feel funny. You know how people loose years and years of investments by putting them into a fund for example that grows 4% a year and then with the next downturn loos 40% (such as in Internet/Electronics/gold/ Biotech funds in the past e.g. 2001' 2007, 2012 depending on the sector)
