Silkworm Cocoons instantly reminds one of how the cocoons of the mulberry silkworm helps in spinning silks however recently it has been understood that there can be beauty uses to the cocoon of the silkworm as well.

Touted currently as the latest secret to ageless and flawless beauty, the cocoons, i.e. the casing of silkworms have however been in use by trainee geishas in Kyoto, Japan for centuries now for the upkeep of their skin. Japanese woman known for their beautiful and clear skin prefer using natural products for anti aging and skincare treatments instead of chemical products than people in the West adore.

According to author of Japanese Women Don’t Get Old Or Fat, Naomi Moriyama, it was the youthful hands of Chinese women who extracted silk from cocoons that gave the idea that the use of the cocoons can have cosmetic benefits on one’s skin and can help in getting rid of Wrinkles.

The cocoons which are spun by the silkworm using its saliva glands are now easily available anywhere around the globe due to its availability on online stores such as Amazon. Costing £ 3.99 for 10 cocoons, the casings of the silkworm are initially required to be soaked in hot water in order to soften it and then can be rubbed gently on areas in the face where acne marks, blemishes or wrinkles and fine lines occur. However, it should be noted that each cocoon should be used only once and should then be discarded.

Apparently, the silkworm cocoons contain oils that are released when they are soaked in hot water. Sericin, a protein that helps in keeping the silk thread together also contains 18 amino acids that can not only brighten the skin but can also remove wrinkles and scars from the skin effectively. The sericin is said to cover the skin with a thin layer thereby protecting hydration and moisture from escaping one’s skin. It is also said that the protein can help in collagen production thereby maintaining the elasticity of the skin.

Frances Childs aged 46, wanting to fight her wrinkles and age stops on her face decided to go in for the white silkworm cocoon facial cleanser. According to Frances, she used the cocoon beauty routine every alternative day for almost a month and still couldn’t find any visible results. However what she didn’t know was that the treatment required at least 4 weeks at the minimum to show any signs of improvements on the face.

Since it takes almost 4 weeks for the skin to renew itself, Frances noticed changes such as softer skin, brighter complexion, less acne scars after almost a month of rubbing those white cocoons on her face. Even a regular visit to her dermatologist confirmed that her UV damage, acne spots and scarring on her skin has impressively reduced by 20 per cent. Her wrinkles too had softened to a great extend around the area of her eyes and mouth.

It was then, Frances got to know that the sericin in the cocoon has boosted production of collagen in her skin thereby healing the scars left behind acne and also increasing the elasticity in the skin with visible improvement in pigmentation as well.
