Instagram has 400mn active users, overtakes Twitter
Instagram now has more than 400 million active users, it announced on Tuesday. This makes the company far larger than rival Twitter Inc. with around 80 million more users, Reuters said. The photo-sharing app has grown rapidly over the past three years, faster than many of its social app competitors, including Twitter and Snapchat. Twitter reported 304 million monthly active users in its most recent quarter, Sky News said. More than 75 percent of Instagram’s users are outside the US. Facebook bought Instagram in 2012 for $1 billion and has been slow to monetize the app. It recently expanded its platform to all advertisers and is expected to make up to $2.8 billion in advertising revenue in 2017, according to eMarketer.
