That's one side of the coin. The other is that controlling all the pieces of the platform allows Intel to create a much higher quality end product. If the processor, chipset, and wireless solution in Centrino are better than what someone can find by putting their own hardware together, then it is a value added to the end user, and thus deserves a premium. Although, on Centrino, Intel is admittedly behind in the wireless standards, at least until they support 802.11g.
