I think that was the smart money leaving town, and the record date is not the day to own NHMD to get the dividend, it must be owned before the ex-dividend date, which in most cases is two days before the record date.

The record date for Nate's dividend is September 21, 2015; therefore, the last day to own the NHMD to get the dividend was today, September 16, 2015.

The easy was to calculate this is to count back three (3) business days from the record date. That is the last day to own the stock to receive the dividend. Two business days before is the ex-dividend date, which is too late.
