Lifting the crude oil export ban is a vote that's up for grabs. According to the WSJ, during the last week of this month, House Republicans plan a vote (it may be delayed a couple of weeks by other non-related issues/political bickering, which should pass the GOP controlled House. But, in the summer of this year, the Senate voted on similar legislation and no Democrats supported the measure. The White House has yet to take a position. Arguments for, being promoted by Big Oil lobbyists (the likes of Conoco Phillips, Marathon and Continental Resources)include that it would stimulate the domestic economy (including mud sales for drilling? seems self-evident IMO) and arguments against (being promoted by refineries with mostly domestic business) include that it would raise gasoline prices, a politically charged issue heading into the election year. U.S. Energy Information Administration disagrees with the latter, stating that lifting the 40 plus year export ban would actually lower prices at the pump. Bottom line: U.S. is pumping 9.3 Million barrels a day currently (70% more than 5 years ago) and commercial crude stockpiles are nearing an all time high. If there was ever a time to start exporting the Texas Tea again (and stimulate the economy in the process), it's now IMHO. Go long WLCDF
