Addition of PCR is huge IMO. Many uses in the medical field. The quick strep test uses it to ID strep throat swabs in just a few hours. If we have a fluid specimine that we think contains infectious agents, we send it to the U. of Washington in Seattle for PCR analysis (from LaJolla,CA). It is way more accurate than culturing. And way more expensive. So it is both a method for making more complex chains of DNA, and for quickly identifying DNA samples. This would open the possibility of ID'ing DNA for numerous enterprises.
