Maybe somebody should invent a car that runs on water, vitamin C and H. Pylori. They could make millions. 
But seriously, I don't think there has to be a conspiracy for no one to be interested in working on solving some of the world's issues. While the need may be apparent, many factors can keep people from pursuing those ideas, including the dollar return on investment ("eat your veggies" may cure cancer, but won't make big bucks) and professional ridicule (most humans aren't risk takers, but thank God for those that are).
