And the opposition argument was primarily based upon the fact these displays contain minimal amounts of cadmium (considerably less than in the everyday environment) & that the cadmium in these products are encased , making it hard to leach into the environment. These may or may not be valid arguments but the RoHS initially ruled in favor of the exemption anyway. Still, all this is pretty much a mute point now...the display manufacturers aren't interested in putting cadmium into their products & despite the fact that CdSeQD's have much better efficiency numbers than CFQD's , the direction is set.
