Very interesting Read!
This man took Billions of dollars from Glaxo which is now Glaxo Smith Klein when he found a cure for ulcers. Glaxo was selling an over the counter medicine (Antacid)to "TREAT" ulcers until Barry Marshall turned the tables and "CURED" what was causing ulcers. I would love to see this happen with Cancer.

TWO AUSTRALIAN SCIENTISTS HAVE BEEN AWARDED THE NOBEL PRIZE FOR MEDICINE FOR THEIR DISCOVERYTHAT STOMACH ULCERS CAN BE CAUSED BY A BACTERIAL INFECTION. Griffith Hack client Professor Barry Marshall, and his colleague Dr Robin Warren, showed in 1982 that the bacterium Helicobacter pylori played a pivotal role in the development of both stomach and intestinal ulcers.Until H. pylori was discovered it was thought that stress and lifestyle were the major causes of stomachand intestinal ulcers. It was also thought that the only treatment for ulcers was bed rest, a bland diet and the inhibition of gastric acid production in patients using antacids. Unfortunately, in most instances, H. pyloriwas not eradicated using these methods and manypatients relapsed. This led to further complications and in the chronically affected patients, drasticmeasures including surgery to remove ulceratedtissue, were undertaken.Professor Marshall and Dr Warren showed patients could only be properly cured when H. pylori was eradicated from the stomach. One of the most interesting aspects of the discovery by Professor Marshall and Dr Warren was theirmethodology. Whilst it is now firmly established that H. pylori causes more than 90% of duodenal ulcers andup to 80% of gastric ulcers, in 1982 their discovery was met with scepticism by the medical community. Manyscientists and medical practitioners could not acceptthat bacteria could survive in the acid conditions of the stomach and refuted Marshall and Warren’s claims. To resolve the issue Professor Marshall underwent endoscopy to prove that he did not have an ulcer then he deliberately ingested a culture of the H. pylori to give himself an ulcer. Professor Marshall has been quoted as saying “I planned to give myself an ulcer and then treat myself, to prove that H. pylori can be a pathogen in normal people. I thought about it for a few weeks and then decided to just do it. Luckily, I only developed a temporary infection.” Once he established that an ulcer had developed, he treated himself with antibiotics to resolve the H. pylori infection and curethe ulcer. The findings eventually forced drug firms to rethink treatment of a condition that affects millions of people in a market worth billions of dollars. The market for stomach treatments is worth about $20 billion a year with AstraZeneca, Abbott Laboratories and Takeda being the main suppliers. While Dr Warren has long been retired, Professor Marshall continues to be very active in the field. Indeed, Griffith Hack is currently working with Professor Marshall on a new drug delivery system.
