Could you ask your insider friend at Raytheon what they've done with their two Cyclone Manta Ray 36 engines? Neither Raytheon nor Cyclone has mentioned them since they were shipped in 2012.
Since he retired from Raytheon, has anyone else there continued that Cyclone-engined submersible project?
Was Cyclone engines for subs just the pet project of a senior engineer who was easing into retirement? Let the guy play with his toys rather than have him start any big projects that he wouldn't be around to finish?
And what kind of performance has Raytheon gotten out of those engines? Have they ever been put into a sub, or even run after being delivered?
