Gooddoc the MM's don't need to move the stock price as the buyers and sellers determine that. If they have a mess of sellers they strengthen in behind the bid giving one the impression that there are a lot of buyers thus encouraging the fence sitter bidders to bite on the offer. Its akin to luring a fish by chumming the bait. I've never fished so I hope this term was correct.
