Yeah, they tend to trust precisely those that they should not trust.

But that is how scams work.

Read the small print and the disclaimers. If you have to read between the lines a lot to get information, it is best to assume that they are out to skin you.

BTW, 17ALEB had the correct answer to the metaphor that I gave him!!
