It lowers the share count, it increases the shareholder value for the rest of us, it decreases SRNA's outstanding debt, and it lowers the uncertainty about what Tom Bollich might have done at some point (for shareholders worried that he could have just started dumping shares at some point). Retiring a huge chunk of shares is definitely good for SRNA. There might be some other motives we don't know about, but the PR did say that he did so without any other consideration from SRNA. What he did was basically a gift to us shareholders, and like the old saying goes, "don't look a gift horse in the mouth".
