It is not difficult to understand that even though opinions are protected, it is not allowed under law to accuse someone of being a thief who is going to steal from a company. Defamation is a bit more slippery but in this case would actually be easier to prove, because the company and the individuals involved have written an article which states as truth things that are provably untrue, makes allegations about the character of the "insiders" when accusing them of being "likely" to commit future crimes, and clearly HAS caused financial damage on the basis of these allegations. This is clearly proven by the statement of the ambulance-chaser firm, which said that the article "revealed" these allegations (and thus claimed them as truth although minimal investigation would have shown their falsity.)

A libel/defamation lawyer would have a field day. I hope that the company pursues it although I doubt that they will. Sometimes it's worth it to lose money on legal fees in the interests of pursuing justice.
