Joey, thanks for the post. I've been wondering what those "upside down cups" were since I first saw them. Why it's advantageous to swirl fuel I have no idea but it's proabably readily available info.

But I think the comment you made about the turbine blade construction may be in error. The narrator mentioned that it was a "single crystal" construction, also called "directional solidification", which has been used for some time to produce something with a preferential strength in one direction--which is just what you'd like to have with a turbine blade:

Not sure how the holes in the blade were made--EDM, maybe?
