Have you ever heared of electric trains and diesel trains BTW also run on electric engines. I asume you mean the battery technology. Most people have a home - work distance of approx. 30 miles.
Most electric cars are lease cars and can be recharged at the company.

The reason why you can not scale up the electric engines and batteries worldwide is this: THEY ARE MADE OUT OF RARE METALS!
