Microsoft lands one of the largest commercial cloud contracts in DoD history

Recently, the U.S. military has had a tough time updating its technology, which may have lead to at least one minor breach. It seems the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is getting more aggressive about staying up to date with technology by launching a new partnership with Microsoft, stemmed from the company's Cloud for Government program.

The news came directly from Microsoft, who are now in partnership with Dell and government contractor General Dynamics to provide a specialized version of Office 365 and other tools to the U.S. Air Force. With Microsoft's oversight, the Air Force will be able to reduce costs and gain access to secure e-mail, calendars, Office web apps, Skype for Business, and some additional collaboration tools to help that branch of the military work better together.

The DoD says cloud computing is increasingly vital to its operations and that this partnership is open to scaling up, meaning even more business for Microsoft in the future as the role of the cloud increases within the Air Force and Defense Logistics Agency.
