Profile of the Laboratory

Center for Sustainable Resource Science, which started in April 2013, is a new and limited-term research center. The Enzyme Research Team aims to design and develop novel functional and structural biopolymers such as poly(amino acid) and structural proteins (spider silk).

Research Scientist or Postdoctoral Researcher

We are looking for Research Scientist(s) and Postdoctoral Researcher(s), to start immediately. We are seeking candidates who can work for Impulsing Paradigm Change through Disruptive Technologies (ImPACT) Program and are interested in structural, chemical and biological properties of spider silk proteins.

Qualifications

The candidate for Research Scientist must have research experience of more than 5 years after obtaining Ph.D.

The candidate for postdoctoral researcher must have a doctor degree and experience of post-doctoral research of less than 5 years. As for the research fellow, those who are expected to receive the doctoral degree by the end of September, 2015 can also apply.

Generally, successful candidates are expected to speak and write English fluently, to do sampling in some natural environments (field works), and to have knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas: materials science, structural protein, polymer science, and structural analyses by scattering, NMR, IR, Raman, AFM, TEM etc.

Salary and benefits

One-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable, based on the evaluation, up until March 31, 2018 Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Mandatory membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai). Commuting and housing allowances will be provided.

Enrolment in social insurance is required. Days off include public holidays, New Year's holidays (Dec 29–Jan 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day. These and other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.

Also, the successful candidate will be eligible for an exemption from repayment of category 1 scholarship loans provided by the Japan Student Services Organization before fiscal year 2003, and will be eligible to apply for MEXT Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (Kaken-hi).

* A recommendation from a third party is allowed when it is difficult for the candidate to obtain a recommendation from the current supervisor.
* These letters should be addressed to Center for Sustainable Resource Science, Director.
A work/Research reference who can be contacted for an opinion.
Certificate of graduation or copy of Ph.D diploma
