Linux and OS X

I have been concerned about the effect of Linux on demand for OS X. I expressed that once or twice over on RB, and Ruddy usually responded with the opinion that the growth of Linux was a good thing for Apple--that anything putting a dent in MS OS hegemony was.

I think both of those opinions can co-exist and some of both will happen, but I do not know which opinion will dominate in terms of the marketplace. I do know that I consider Linux, particularly as it moves toward the desktop, to be a competitor (real or potential) or the OS X.
