This is nothing more than rhetorical fluff. While US foreign relations have deteriorated (under Obama) with Russia, the Saudis and just about every one else, the Saudis are no fools. They realize that the US still carries more weight worldwide than any other country and that Russia is barely a *player* any longer given oil prices and western sanctions.

My suspicion is that Saudi Arabia (and others) are playing nice with Putin in hopes of gaining his military support against ISIS/AQAP.
