do you have Norton Disk Doctor or Disk Warrior? You probably would have used one of them if you did, huh?

Don't have them for X, had DW for 9.

Have you started up from the OSX disk and run disk repair?

Yes, the disk was ok. Permissions need repaired everytime I restart the compute--at least something gets fixed each time.

I gave away my Missing Manual when I installed Jaguar. Guess I'll buy one for Jag and go digging around in System Preferences.
