when you take into consideration that their partners and financiers are in the auto parts business, i cant imagine why spiber would need to be concerned with the softness or comfort of their silk...it is obviously being produced for auto parts and car manufacturers...

Agreed. In their presentation, while they said that it could also be used in bulletproof vests, they also stated that they are intially intending for their product to be used in an industrial environment and gave the example of automobiles as their primary example.

I don't see KBLB entering that market, at least intially. Working with the pure proteins created by Spiber Inc. would likely be easier than KBLB's fibers for that application. Either way, both companies will need to ramp up to raise production to meet what will likely be overwhelming demand in the future, so I believe that both companies will do very well once they commercialize.

bolt threads would need to be concerned with softness and comfort...and they recieved $40 mil to commercialize their product...

I don't know much about Bolt Thread's silk. I have not been able to find any patent information nor any peer reviewed articles on anything that they have created thus far, so i can only speculate to what they have.

I do know that Spiber Inc. worked independantly and seperately from all other companies up until their development of QMONOS™, so Bolt Thread's spinning technology might indeed be able to craft a more pleasent silk. Since they are aiming for sports apparel and other standard textile uses, I believe that it is likely the case. I am curious as to the properties of their silk, but I will just have to wait until they release some info on it.
