It is my understanding that 90% of the common stock was given to creditors in exchange for releasing the debt. In other words, creditors traded something worthless and always will be for something that might have value in the future. The point of "leaving stockholders intact," which is not what happened exactly, is to dispose of debt and go public without an IPO.
