Capacitors are generally specific purposed. Like say a starter capacitor on your air conditioner unit. It stores energy to use as an assist boost when the compressor starts. (It is also one of the prime fault parts) While a battery is in essence a capacitor,(stores energy) they aren't meant to deliver burst energy as a capacitor is. Therefore I never understood putting capacitors on solar panels. Batteries yes, long life batteres yes yes. Double long life batteries yes yes yes..

Edit: Just read markp post. In that configuration capacitors AND batteries make more sense.
