On Tuesday, the Miami-Dade County Commission approved spending up to $5 million to buy police body cameras. The agency will now put the contract out to bid by vendors.
The planned purchases are the latest in a growing list of law enforcement agencies using the technology after recent police-involved killings of unarmed black men led to calls for better monitoring of police-citizen interactions.
Other stocks have benefited from body-camera demand. The devices use Ambarella's (NASDAQ:AMBA) video-processing chips, and law enforcement has used action cameras from GoPro (NASDAQ:GPRO) as well.
Ambarella's stock was up 3.4% Wednesday, and GoPro was up 1.7%.
