Capital gains question

Is there a way to bypass the 12 month rule....essentially writing covered calls with expiration long enough to meet the 12 month holding of stock?

i.e. suppose i have held a stock for 10 months and do not want to be taxed short term capital gains....could I write covered calls for 3 month future date at a price that will cause my stock to be called?

Does this work? TIA
