Then, without fanfare, the company yesterday had a new name, symbol and a substantive reverse split. It is not known if the company had a deliberate strategy to foil short-sellers who often drive prices to unfathomable bottoms after they announce reverse splits, but by keeping them guessing, the surprise element, while staying within the letter of the law, may have helped avoid such a fate.
