I do not disagree with anything you say except I don't see this as having opposing viewpoints. We aren't achieving anything by unhappily spinning our wheels, and we aren't achieving anything by quietly waiting. So, what does one do?

Eventually, one is left in a quandry: when do the costs of hanging on outweigh those of cutting one's losses? The focus here is on what we have control of, not the angst of relying on someone else to make our lives better for us.
