abh3vt-Not that this is the point of your post, but the option expense is amortized over the vesting period. Since most options require a vesting period the expense is amortized over that employment period.
From an accounting perspective I don't like this new method, but as an investor I appreciate the fact that it may become a deterrent to excessive stock option awards.
