I think that it would be a pain for hobbyists if AMD required
a firmware upgrade if anything was added in the chip. But I
suppose that there might be some other stuff in the chips.

One bit of a pain is that you're at the mercy of the guys
to update their firmware. On laptops, you can usually forget
about it as they want to sell you a new model and it's not
like you're goint to replace the mobo.
